Napa Valley Wine Country
Considered one of the finest wine regions in the world, Napa has consistently produced award-winning wines for decades. The Mediterranean climate, geography and geology enable more than 450 vintners to deliver cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, pinot noir, merlot and zinfandel that are on par with some of the best French wines. Most wineries have tastings available for a small fee, and they usually offer a menu of snacks that complement the wines you’ll be tasting.

Stanford Memorial Church
Called Stanford University’s “architectural crown jewel,” this lovely church was built during the American Renaissance as a memorial to Stanford founder Leland Stanford. The colorful stained glass windows and intricate mosaics are based on paintings the Stanford family enjoyed in Europe, and the five pipe organs ensure a constant underlying musical note. Known as one of the most prominent nondenominational churches on the West Coast, “Mem Chu” (as it is called) is worth a visit inside to see the splendor for yourself.
Stanford Shopping Center
Stanford University has some pretty highly esteemed alumni: the founders of Google, Hewlett-Packard, Nike, Sun Microsystems and Yahoo!, to name a few, are all graduates. If you don’t rank among them, you can still visit the expansive grounds (alternately designated the most beautiful college campus in the United States and in the world), cheer on the NCAA-champion basketball team or climb the Hoover Tower to enjoy a 360-degree view of the campus.
